Dr. Sivakumar S. Balakrishnan, known as Dr. Siva, is a distinguished consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as a specialised Urogynaecologist at Sunway Medical Centre Penang. His impressive journey in medicine began with his graduation from the University Science of Malaysia in 1993. Driven by a passion for advancing women’s health, he completed his Master’s in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from University Malaya in 2000.

Dr. Siva’s pursuit of expertise in urogynaecology led him to undertake a rigorous three-year subspecialty fellowship, including a year of training at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia. Upon returning to Penang, Malaysia, he founded the Urogynaecology Unit at Hospital Pulau Pinang in 2007, which has since become a key training center for new urogynaecologists.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Siva is an Associate Professor at the RCSI & UCD Malaysia campus and serves as a Visiting Consultant Urogynaecologist at Penang Hospital. His contributions extend beyond patient care; he is a prolific educator and advocate, having published numerous papers, given many lectures, and been involved in public education on urinary and pelvic health issues.

Dr. Siva has played a pivotal role in shaping the field of urogynaecology in Malaysia, evidenced by his involvement in the National Urogynaecology Subcommittee, and his leadership as the Founder Secretary and Past President of the Malaysian Urogynaecology Society. His influence also spans internationally, having served on the International Urogynaecological Association (IUGA) Education Subcommittee and as the South East Asia representative on the IUGA International Advisory Board.

With a career marked by dedication to both his patients and the broader medical community, Dr. Siva continues to champion advancements in urogynaecology, making a profound impact on women’s health both locally and globally.
